I (and others here) have used custom-molded Sensaphonic in-ear monitors for years.
While it does require a trip to an audiologist and a few more $ than what you find on Amazon, the db reduction protection these custom monitors provide to save our hearing is in my opinion very much worth it.
Glad you've had good luck with your Sensaphonics. I haven't. Their warranty is USELESS! I wasted about $700 on a set, operative word wasted...

Sorry to hear that Duane. :((n)
I've had mine for over 10 years now, no issues.

There is a patch cord for the 10S to allow you to plug in ear buds. It plugs into where your speakers plug in.

Several years ago I swapped our Sena 10 speaker bases with a base designed for use with stereo earbuds. We have been using these ever since.

Good enough for riding the IBR in 19, 21, & 23 averaging twenty hours a day for eleven days in a row. Coat with Neosporin before inserting to eliminate rub burns in the ear canal. One more tip: While waiting for the putty to setup, chew gum. This works your jawbone and prevents severe pain later on down the road.

Thanks. Looks interesting and the price is right. I found I have spare bases for my Sena which have earbud audio jacks. I think I'll try the loops earplugs for a ride and see if they work well enough for me to hear audiobooks, and if not I'll try these. @StephenV do you happen to use the included microphone on the cord for phone calls/VTT, or does it work with your Sena boom mic, or how does that work?

We have the boom mics on our SMH-10s installed in Shoe Neotec helmets. If you are seeing the Ear Fuze style with a built-in mic, I must have sent the wrong link. There is no mic on our cables.

We started with long cords but they just ended up getting in the way all the time. Now we use the short cord and the coiled cords from the Sena base and they fit perfectly. I will try to get a pic or two later today, if I remember...

Thanks. The link was correct, but the description says “
  • Braided sheath cord with integrated mic for phone calls
Indeed it does... That confuses me because there is no integrated mic on the ones we have, nor is there one apparant in the picture... I sent them a message inquiring about the discrepancy.

FYI I tried the loops earplugs (the "experience" ones that supposedly 18db net NRR, though actually only 7 according to the package), and they are actually helpful up to about 70 MPH on the Harley. 60-65 would be doable all day and still allow me to hear my audiobook well enough. At 75-80 it's not going to work, and that's what riding across NV and eastern CA is going to require to save my sanity. The loops plugs are interesting though because you can indeed still hear quiet noises and conversations fairly well, but you can tell that background noise is being attenuated. Should be good (and more convenient) for around town and canyon stuff where speeds aren't so high.

Going to try the earFUZE ones next.

checkout address ended in .cn... I guess earfuze sold out to China? Hmmmmrrrggh. I hope they are still ok quality. I like the idea of a custom-molded earpiece under a helmet.

You referring to the 'cn' that is part of the folder structure on the domain?

I like the idea of a custom-molded earpiece under a helmet.
Another couple pointers while forming the buds in addition to the advice above (specifically chewing on a piece of gum while they set up...)

Take the time to use the practice material provided.

I have never used all of the putty provided in a single kit. I actually split in half one batch before mixing and use the halves for both pieces. You do not want anything stuck out far enough from your ear that it contacts any part of your helmet. The less you use to make the insert, the less chance there is of vibrations rubbing your ear raw.

If you plan on wearing them for more than a couple hours at a time, slather a good coat of Neosporin+ on all the the surfaces that come into contact with your ear. This is the only way we have been able to ride multiple days for many hours per day without our ears oozing puss and caking up every night.

Yes. I thought I saw a ".cn" at some point indicating a chinese domain. I also got an international transaction alert from my credit card when I checked out. Maybe it was for something else.

I know I'm way late to this thread, but I use a cardo spirit which has a 3.5 jack on it for headphones. I use Shure SE215 in ear monitors with it routed through the helmet. This let's me have sound dampening and whatever I want to hear pumped directly to my ears which means it doesn't have to be loud at all to hear it. It is absolutely fantastic for calls, comms, music, and audiobooks. It's basically wearing earplug speakers. And the SE215s have really good sound reproduction. They aren't the best headphones I have, but they are really good. I never have to pump music too loud which is nice. If you wanted though you could crank up the noise and you'd hear nothing but music. I keep them quiet enough to still be able to make out my surroundings.

Where's the mic for calls? do the earbuds not have an included mic? I assume the cardo mic is smart enough to plumb audio through the buds but mic through the cardo...

The Cardo Spirit came with a mic I just replaced the in helmet speakers with the in ear monitors. I can send a pic of the full setup if you like. The ONLY downside to this that I have seen is that it sucks to wear the earbuds on short rides. You basically can't put the helmet on without the earbuds in. Well I mean you probably could but you'd have to be careful where the buds are.
