Here's a result from a quick search I did. There may be other threads you can read. There's been lots of discussions regarding knock off from china, batteries, all kinds of related info. The search box is in the header, fwiw.

Terminals are attached to batteries with pinpoint ultrasonic welds which apply very focused heat for a brief amount of time. Attempting to solder the terminals spreads a lot of heat over a fairly large area, which cooks the insides of the battery. At best, this will reduce its lifespan. You can’t even get at the underside terminal to solder it, and as I recall, it takes two contacts to complete a circuit.

Counting on a mechanical pressure on a contact that wasn’t designed for it seems like asking for trouble from corrosion or slight separation from impact.

Compared to the cost of the battery, the price for replacing a dead TPM is silly, but at the moment TPM’s are consumables just like tires. Someday there may be a serviceable TPM, but until then, I’ll let the shop replace mine and just grit my teeth over the price.

+1 @DukeJockey , You can keep your costs down by replacing a TPMS with a non-OEM unit. I've installed several that I got from @coyotek. All of his TPMS units come with serial numbers to facilitate programming with a GS911.

I purchased a spare k1300 rim with TPM from a forum member. He had noted the serial number for me to program it if needed. As @capav8r experienced, I rode around a bit and the bike picked it up eventually.

When I had to replace my front sensor, I looked at these some videos and evaluated how hard it would be to change the battery. Then I discovered that I could buy sensors on eBay for less than $20 each. That saves the hassle to swap the battery and it was no trouble to match it up to the bike. Here’s a link to a current auction for a compatible sensor: 2PCS 8532732 TPMS Tire Pressure Sensor System For BMW Motorcycle Without Valve | eBay
